The car group Stellantis, which owns the Peugeot brand, is now warning that using the wrong oil on the Peugeot 208 model can cause the cars to catch fire.
Pouring in the wrong oil can cause the Peugeot 208 to catch fire. The risk of this happening is now prompting parent company Stellantis to recall the car and its sister models.
This is reported by the French news agency AFP .
According to Stellantis, as quoted by AFP, it is not the engine itself that is at fault. Instead, the wrong oil may have been poured into the cars.
An oil that can damage everything from the crankshaft to the pistons. In the worst case, it causes a hole in the engine block, which can trigger a fire in the engine compartment.
A total of three models manufactured between 2022 and 2024 are affected. In addition to the Peugeot 208, the Citroën C3 and Opel Corsa cars of the same year may be affected by the same problem.
Stellantis says the recall affects a total of 68,000 cars. However, the group does not say whether there have already been any reported cases of fires related to the problem, or whether the risk is 'hypothetical' and the worst-case scenario.
If you have a car with the problem, you will be notified of the recall. Stellantis himself says that the whole thing should be solved with an oil and oil filter change.
It is not known whether Danish cars are affected by the bug. Boosted is attempting to get a comment from the Stellantis importer in Denmark, Wismo Group.
However, according to TV Midtvest, the importer has recalled 557 cars in Denmark.
In Sweden, the same importer states that they have recalled 470 cars. The majority of the cars – 443 to be exact – are Citroën C3, while 18 are Peugeot 208 and 12 are Opel Corsa.
