Rare Saab museum closes – all the cars must go

Saab Memorial Hall in Vännäs closes forever. The collection includes everything from a rare Sonett to former police cars. But now it's over.

In the Swedish town of Vännäs is the Saab Memorial Hall, which is a collection of rare Saab models. Or that is to say: it is still a little like that. Because the place will soon close for good, and the cars will have to find new owners.

This, in turn, means that there is an opportunity to acquire a rare Saab or two. The Norwegian Tron Bach, who himself opened the place to the public in 2019, has decided to do so.

He owns all the cars on site, which he himself has expanded over the years after he found an older Saab 92 hidden behind an outbuilding.

Today, the collection includes, in addition to a Saab 9-5 with a 2.3 liter engine that was popular with the Swedish police, a Saab Sonett from 1973. Add to that one of the only 480 Saab 900 CDs. One of the few Saab models that was rebuilt outside the factory in Trollhättan and delivered to customers from there.

The car, which was built in Finland, was intended for the top of the business world based on the idea of one of Sweden's richest business families, the Wallenberg family.

Here, one had a notion that the business world would love a Saab 900, if only it were made 10 centimeters longer. The Wallenberg family was wrong and the car was not a success. However, the car at the museum in Vännäs has cards with the director of Handelsbanken.

As soon as the Saab Memorial Hall closes for the season, buyers can pick up their cars. There's just one small problem. The museum building is constructed around the cars. The walls must therefore be knocked down if the cars are to go out on the roads again.

The auction, which Bilwebauctions is responsible for, ends on August 8. Incidentally, it is the museum's last ever opening day.

It sometimes happens that larger – or as in this case smaller – car collections have to find new owners. In 2022, Boosted could i.a. talk about a BMW museum where everything had to go away. Read more about it here .
