14 drivers have already lost their driving licenses conditionally because they drove past the police with limited visibility out of the windshield. Now law enforcement is warning others.
Police are warning drivers that driving with iced windows can result in fines and a suspended license. 14 drivers recently learned this after receiving their sentences in court.
During the cold weather with temperatures below zero degrees, police often see drivers driving around with windows covered in ice and fog. This makes it difficult for drivers to see properly, which is dangerous for everyone in traffic.
– It can be dangerous for others if a driver drives around with limited visibility, and this is something we prioritize highly during this period of frost, says head of the traffic department, Police Commissioner Claus Stoltenberg, Copenhagen West Police, in a press release .
He advises drivers to take a few minutes to remove ice and mist from all windows and mirrors so they have a clear view when driving. He also reminds drivers to make sure to keep the windows clean throughout the drive if they fog up again.
Lack of visibility can cost drivers dearly. In addition to a fine of 2,500 kroner, it can also lead to a conditional suspension of their driving license for three years. This means that drivers must pass an orientation driving test – both theoretical and practical – within six months in order to keep their driving license.
