Polestar 3 hit by expensive defect – owners will receive compensation

Polestar has been developing cars for so long that the computers in them have become too old. This has led to a lot of bugs, which now have to be fixed with new computers at the brand's expense.

Polestar will now pay for the brand's own mistakes. The car brand will have to pay to replace old computers with new ones from Nvidia.

The Chinese car brand has taken so long to develop the cars – including the Polestar 3 – that the computers in the cars have become too old.

All new Polestar cars will now have a more modern and faster Nvidia processor. Older cars that the brand has already sold will be updated with new processors.

– The Polestar 3 model year 2026 will be upgraded with the NVIDIA Drive AGX Orin processor, which will also be offered as a free hardware upgrade to existing customers, the brand said in a press release .

Boosted has previously described the bugs that Polestar's cars are suffering from. And they're certainly not small things. The brand has previously had to replace physical buttons on the steering wheel because these didn't work either.

Boosted has also heard from several Polestar owners reporting issues with even brand new cars. Several even say they have had previous models from the brand but the issues have only increased.

Sister brand Volvo has the same problem with its computers. Because the development of the top model EX90 has taken so long, replacing the computers could cost the brand billions of kroner. However, Volvo has not yet said how they will fix the errors.

The first versions of the Polestar 3 have been plagued by a number of strange bugs. The screens went black , and some cars even shut down while driving. Several owners have had to restart the computers in the cars from time to time.

Polestar has since tried to solve the problems with several software updates. But it hasn't been successful. So now new hardware is needed.

– With our OTA updates, we can continue to improve our cars over time, and with the latest updates to Polestar 3 and Polestar 4, we have done just that. Our customers asked for the digital key feature, so we delivered.

– And we will continue to create added value for our customers throughout the entire life of their cars,” says Polestar Director Michael Lohscheller.
