Peugeot stops deliveries because cars crack

Peugeot, which is owned by the car group Stellantis, states that none of the problematic cars have been delivered because the cracks were discovered.

Peugeot has chosen to stop deliveries of certain models of the 3008 and 5008 SUVs after it was discovered that cracks in the cars' chassis could lead to serious damage. The problem has occurred in models with mild hybrid drive and the fault means that some cars are at risk of chassis failure.

The failure has led to a recall, which is referred to as a "stop campaign". This means that the affected cars must not be used, because they have been checked and possibly repaired. Peugeot has stated that it concerns cars produced in the period from 26 August to 3 September 2024.

David Lindahl, PR and communications manager at KW Bruun, which imports Peugeot in Sweden, explains that none of the cars affected by the problem have reached buyers yet.

– In Sweden, there are 15 cars. Of them, 12 have already been examined and found to be in order, while the remaining three are expected to be checked within a short time, David Lindahl tells Vi Bilägare .

Recalls like this are not unique to Peugeot. In the past, other manufacturers, such as Ford, have also faced similar challenges.

Among other things, Ford had to recall several thousand cars where serious faults made it doubtful whether they could be repaired at all. Back in May 2024, the brand found out that there were welding defects in up to 5,000 cars from a factory in Turkey.

Due to the steel construction of the cars, there is a risk that the welding defect cannot be repaired. If this is the case, the cars must be scrapped. So scrapped. According to the German response to the Transport Agency, KBA, well over 1,000 of the cars are driving around our neighboring country.

Problems such as cracks in the chassis or other serious construction defects emphasize the importance of thorough quality checks, especially when the cars have not yet been delivered to customers.
