Nils has promised he will never drive far in an electric car again

If electric cars really are the future, Nils Svärd will probably have a hard time keeping his ceiling. Nevertheless, he has vowed never to drive far in an electric car again.

A trip in an electric car, which gave 2.5 hours extra travel time, was about to cost Niels Svärd his marriage. And he predicts a definite divorce boom if this sort of thing continues.

He writes this in a column for Vi Bilägare .

Niels Svärd has covered the trip to the Halland coast in Sweden. Also in electric cars, as there were far fewer charging stations in the country than today. Still, the electric car quickly became a problem.

The trip home, which took place on Ascension Sunday, was a bitter foretaste of the future that can await if electric cars become the only thing allowed on the roads.

At the first charging stop, there was only one free charging station left. Out of 4 stands, one was also defective. After the Svärds family borrowed the Volkswagen ID.3, a crowd quickly formed of other electric car owners who also needed electricity.

Some became so impatient that they continued on. At the next charging stop, the family again had to keep in line to even get to a charging station.

Back home, Niels Svärd describes the atmosphere in the car as 'miserable'. The trip, which should have taken five hours, ended up costing the family 7.5 hours because it became necessary to wait to even be allowed to charge.

In order to save some of the domestic peace, Niels Svärd had to promise that the family would never drive 500 kilometers in an electric car again. He himself does not dare to think about the problems the same trip can cause in sub-zero temperatures and in even heavier traffic.

Something also suggests that the problem the family experienced is here to stay. In any case, a new test reveals that the electric cars have a hard time in cold and wet weather. Read more about it here .
