New York imposes special penalties for all passenger cars

As the first city in the USA, New York has introduced a fee that everyone in passenger cars – and for that matter vans – must pay to enter the borough of Manhattan.

Manhattan is really its own oi New York. But that does not stop the city government from introducing a fee for anyone who wants to enter the city on something with wheels.

Everything from motorcycles to cars to vans must now pay upwards of $15 just to be allowed to cross the border into Manhattan.

The amount varies in size according to the type of chore train. The highest amount must be paid by people in cars or vans during the day. The amount is reduced to $3.75 per night.

The Associated Press writes that.

Motorcyclists must pay $7.50 a day and $1.75 at night. Taxis have to get rid of up to 2.5 dollars per person. trip. For trucks and buses, the amount is even higher. All the way up to 36 dollars a day.

On the other hand, the amount is only imposed once a day, regardless of whether the trucks or buses leave the zone that central Manhattan has become.

The city government believes that the new toll rate will force more people to take public transport. Therefore, they now also want to increase the number of bus routes on the island.

People with particularly low incomes can apply to have the toll reduced by half, just as disabled drivers are exempted from the toll. The new duty/tax was otherwise adopted by a vote of 11 to 1.

Here at home, there are still no toll roads like that. But there are several times talk of tightening the screws on motorists.

Which has actually happened. For example, back in October last year. Something that has since meant that more than 10,000 stalls have been issued. Read more about it here .
