New Toyota MR2 will be as expensive as Porsche Cayman

From now on, it may not just be the Supra that is the only Toyota over DKK 1 million in Denmark. The Japanese are on the way with a new MR2, writes the media.

There is both good and bad news. Because although there are indications that Toyota is on the way with a new MR2, there are at least as many indications that it will be an expensive pleasure.

That is, as in Porsche Cayman expensive fun. Specifically, Japan's Best Car believes that the new MR2 will have a price tag of 10 million Japanese yen.

Converted to Danish currency, it is just under DKK 500,000, but when the tax is added, the price climbs over DKK 1 million. So for a Toyota.

On the other hand, it is worth noting that Best Car also believes that Toyota is on the way with a crazy two-liter petrol engine. Without any hybrid assistance, the engine is rumored to make 600 horsepower.

However, Toyota must also be ready with versions of the same engine that only make 400 and 300 horsepower respectively…'only'.

In addition, Toyota is said to have developed both a six-speed manual gearbox and an eight-speed automatic gearbox for the new MR2. A car that, due to its name, 'midship runabout 2-seater', can do nothing but be a two-door, center-engined sports car. Albeit a raging animal one of a kind.

The last time Toyota in Denmark had an MR2 on the program was 19 years ago. In 2005, an MR2 with a 1.8-litre petrol engine and four cylinders cost a whopping DKK 473,000. This corresponds to DKK 680,000 today.
