New figures: Electric cars rust just as much as fossil cars

Just when it comes to rust, electric car owners should not feel superior to anything. Their cars rust just as much as anything else on four wheels.

Some electric car owners do not get their cars rust-protected because they are afraid of damage to cables and the batteries themselves. Several car manufacturers directly advise owners against rust protection.

Tesla is officially voiding parts of its warranty if drivers protect their cars from rust. Read more about it here.

But now new figures from the Danish Technological Institute show that electric cars rust at least as much as diesel and petrol cars. This is the body's conclusion in a new report, which will soon be published.

That's what Motor magazine writes.

The report also concludes that electric car owners take the issue of rust protection too lightly. Motorists do this because they mistakenly believe that their cars are primarily made of aluminum and other elements that do not rust easily.

But that is not the case. The report even states that the electric cars are often welded together with 'old fashioned' spot welding, made in China and not at all designed to drive around in a climate like the Danish one.

Back in January this year, Boosted could tell how some Norwegians view Denmark's best-selling car, the Tesla Model Y, which can easily be a rust trap. Read more about it here .

However, it has also happened that undercarriage treatment centers here at home have made a huge fool of themselves when it comes to electric cars. This kind of mistake ended up costing a Danish undercarriage center a whopping 50,000 kroner, because the company had dismantled an electric Skoda. Read more about it here .
