New figures: A record number of motorists have needed special help

The Danish motorists fought the winter to the extent that we have just left us. In particular, an unusually large amount of water caused problems, according to figures from SOS Dansk Autohjælp.

Although it is now over, the winter of 2023/24 will not be forgotten right away. DMI has named the past winter the second wettest ever in Danish weather history.

And in addition to unusually heavy rain, there have been several periods of snow and frost.

This is clearly reflected in the statistics on what SOS Dansk Autohjælp has helped Danish car owners with in the period 1 November 2023 to 29 February 2024.

More than double up
13,000 assistances during the period have been extrications, where car rescuers from SOS Dansk Autohjælp have helped to pull cars out of snowdrifts, up rough terrain and free from mud.

This is more than twice as many times compared to the same period last winter.

– We look back on a winter where a great many motorists needed to call roadside assistance. Both in December and January we got a lot of snow and frost.

– And it was relieved by a long period of rain, which has turned the ground blood, says Anette Bjorn Juncher, duty center manager at SOS Dansk Autohjælp.

When the weather offers rain for longer periods, it provides regular work for the roadside assistance, who are busy helping motorists who are stuck in mud when the car has been parked on grass, gravel or on rough edges.

However, the roads are not the only thing that motorists mess with. A very special Sunday also presents challenges for many already this week. Read more about it here .
