Mechanic fined DKK 273,000 for diesel fraud

Mechanics continue to cheat and tamper with diesel cars in a big way, even if it costs them fortunes when they are discovered.

A Ford dealer and mechanic in the US state of Nebraska has been sentenced to pay a fine of 40,000 dollars, equivalent to 273,000 kroner, because he has cheated with a number of diesel cars.

Moody Motor Co., based in the city of Niobrara, has for a period between 2019 and 2022 removed or blocked all pollution control equipment, authorities say.

According to the judgement, this has happened to at least 20 cars, and thus the dealer has broken the American Clean Air Act, which must ensure the least possible air pollution in the country.

This is what the US Department of Justice writes on its website .

However, the fine is small compared to the fines previously given for similar cheating. In 2023, a mechanic – also in the USA – was fined as much as DKK 4 million for cheating with cars in this way.

However, it is not only car dealers and mechanics who cheat. Both engine manufacturers and the car brands themselves can come up with the same.

In December last year, the American engine manufacturer Cummins, for example, received the biggest fine in world history for cheating with diesel engines. However, the Americans deny having done anything wrong. Read more about it here .

At home, on the other hand, there are problems with getting enough mechanics in general. In a survey from last year, the workshops replied that they largely reject or ask customers to wait longer because there are not enough mechanics available.

And now another survey has just shown that it is more than difficult for vocational education to retain students. Especially on the mechanic line, the majority of women drop out. Read more about it here .
