Maserati has built its last car with a V8 engine

V8 engines are over. At least at Maserati. The last car with 8 cylinders was bought by a customer in the USA.

The last ever Maserati with a V8 engine is not going to a museum. Instead, the car – a Quattroporte nicknamed Gran Finale – will probably go to the USA.

Because even though the car was delivered to a customer near Lake Maggiore, one of the largest lakes in the Alps, that person lives in the USA. The same customer also had a copy of the MC20 sports car delivered at the same time.

Maserati's last ever car with a V8 engine is in the color Blue Nobile. The factory in Modena has given the car the chassis code 999999. In addition, the factory employees have put their signatures on the engine shield.

Under the hood we find a 3.8-liter V8 engine with twin turbos. An engine that is good for 580 horsepower and 730 Nm. This marks the end of 65 years of V8 production at the Modena factory.

But the fact that V8 production has now come to a standstill is not the only thing that makes this Quattroporte interesting.

The car's electric relay is delayed. This means that the chassis code 999999 is the last Quattroporte – which is really just Italian for 'four dores', is the last of its kind to roll out of the factory at all. At least for a very long time.

However, Maserati is not alone in saying goodbye to the V8 engine. At Audi, they will have launched the last car with a V8 engine in 2026 – so maybe – and at Jaguar, they have already dropped the eight cylinders for good. Even at Dodge, the V8 is on its way out for good.

Back at Maserati, the brand has felt the need to escape, the chief executive of the Stellantis group. He has threatened that the brand is for sale. But it doesn't fit, it says now. Read more here .
