Koenigsegg drops 3 cylinders – all get 2,300 horsepower

The most exciting three-cylinder engine in a very long time has been put on hold. According to Koenigsegg, it has succeeded in convincing the vast majority of drivers that they should choose a V8.

Koenigsegg does not build a single copy of the four-seater Gemera with a three-cylinder engine anyway.

Otherwise, that was the plan. But according to Christian von Koenigsegg, there were simply too few customers who wanted to buy such a car.

This is what the car brand's founder says in an interview with the Top Gear Magazine Podcast .

– There were so few who wanted the three-cylinder that we managed to convince almost everyone to buy the V8, says Christian von Koenigsegg.

However, this does not mean that the three-cylinder engine has been completely buried. Because it could be that it makes a comeback in another car. The Swedes have not scrapped the tank.

– The engine is still interesting and we are working on it. In the future, we might launch it in Gemera in some way.

Not all Gemera customers are, however, equally bothered by the idea that they can't get a three-cylinder car after all.

A customer in Sweden is demanding SEK 16 million in compensation from the car dealer with whom he entered into a binding, written agreement. However, the car dealer will not pay any compensation under any circumstances, says a lawyer. Read more about it here.

While Koenigsegg is currently pulling the plug on the 3-cylinder technology, it is conversely a great success for Toyota. Or that is, for the aftermarket.

In Australia, a tuner has come to the conclusion that the small 3-cylinder GR Yaris can produce 1,000 horsepower. The factory does not think more than 260 horsepower is needed. Read more about it here .
