Honda will take over several car brands, says former boss

The former head of the Renault-Nissan alliance, Carlos Ghosn, now says that Honda has plans to take over several car brands.

Last week it was confirmed that Honda, Nissan and Mitsubishi are teaming up to throw money at the development of a range of electric cars.

But if you ask the former head of the Renault-Nissan alliance, Carlos Ghosn, Honda is looking for much more than a collaboration.

The Japanese, who are replacing Red Bull in Formula 1, are planning to take over both Nissan and Mitsubishi in one fell swoop, says the Lebanese businessman in an interview with Automotive News .

Ghosn, whom the Japanese authorities accuse of fraud, believes that Honda is by far the largest of the three brands and that Honda will therefore try to take control. First and foremost with the now announced electric car collaboration.

– I can't even imagine how it will work between Honda and Nissan. Unless it's all about a takeover.

– It looks like a takeover in disguise by Honda. So by both Nissan and Mitsubishi. It will be a takeover disguised as a collaboration, it says.

If it is in fact a takeover that Honda has in mind, they will probably first have to buy Nissan out of the alliance with Renault. The same applies to Mitsubishi.

So far, very little has actually been confirmed about the new collaboration between the Japanese car brands. But we do know that they have signed an agreement on the development of electric motors, batteries and software for 'future electric cars', as they say in a press release.
