Guests at famous car show received 17,000 kroner in parking fees

Parking fees of 2,100 kroner per hour during the Custom Motor Show in Jönköping were supposed to keep out disruptive drivers. Instead, they ended up with angry guests.

Several drivers got an expensive surprise in Jönköping. They were charged parking fees of thousands of kroner.

It happened at the Asecs purchasing center during the annual Custom Motor Show in the Swedish city. A new shock parking fee of around 2,100 Danish kroner per hour was the cause.

It was the management at Asecs that introduced the extremely high rate. However, the fee only applied at night. It was set at 3,000 Swedish kronor per hour.

That's approximately 2,100 Danish kroner. An unusually high price for parking.

The high tax was introduced in connection with the Easter weekend, which is usually directly connected to the large Custom Motor Show in Jönköping.

The event attracts thousands of car enthusiasts from Denmark and abroad to the exhibition halls every year. But some of them have now decided they will never come again.

This is not the first time Asecs has tried to keep guests at the Custom Motor Show away from their parking lot.

According to the shopping center, guests at the event have previously left behind a mess of waste in connection with the car show.

The center management wanted to avoid similar situations this year.

According to center director Alexander Odegran, the purpose was not to make money. The high fee was to discourage people from staying in the parking lot overnight. The goal was to prevent unrest and crime.

Strict parking rules and stalls at Asecs

The extreme parking fee was clearly posted. Large signs at the entrances informed visitors of the high price for overnight parking. It was difficult for visitors to miss the information.

Still, several visitors were affected by the high toll. Some drivers received fines. The fines ranged from 10,500 to 25,000 Swedish kronor.

Converted to Danish kroner, this corresponds to an amount between approximately 7,350 and 17,500 kroner. Even from Danish eyes, this is an enormous sum. Not surprisingly, this has created a number of angry drivers.

One of them told Sveriges Radio that he would never appear in the area again.

– I will never go to Jönköping again.

The center management has previously tried other methods to curb the problems. They have tried blocking the entrances with concrete blocks. However, they were removed again by unknown persons.

Challenges at the Custom Motor Show in Jönköping

The new, high tax was therefore the latest measure. It was supposed to ensure peace and order at night. However, it also resulted in large fines for some unfortunate drivers.

The situation highlights the challenges of large events such as car shows. Balancing festivities with order and security can be difficult. Parking spaces often become a focal point for problems.

Although the intention was to prevent problems, the high fee created new frustrations. The question is whether the method was the right one. The future will tell if Asecs finds a different solution for next year's Custom Motor Show.
