The Taiwanese company Foxconn, which builds all of Apple's iPhones, is now denying that it is interested in taking over Nissan. It should be a collaboration, says the chairman of the board.
If anything is to happen between iPhone manufacturer Foxconn and car brand Nissan, one should not own the other.
This is according to Reuters from Foxconn chairman Young Liu.
In an interview with the news agency, Young Liu says that they are not interested in taking over Nissan, but rather 'collaborating' with the Japanese.
In this way, Young Liu also puts to rest a story that appeared last week. Several media outlets wrote that the Taiwanese company was and is interested in taking over Nissan, after negotiations for a merger with Honda officially broke down.
Foxconn instead explains that the interest in and for Nissan is due to the fact that one of the brand's former bosses, Jun Seki, is currently at the helm of the Taiwanese company's Automotive efforts.
Nissan itself has not commented on the interest from Taiwan. It is expected that this will only happen when negotiations with Honda are finally far in the grave. This happened on Thursday morning Danish time.
So a new announcement from Nissan could be just around the corner. The fact that the Japanese are having a hard time is nothing new. In fact, it's not the first time either.
Back in 1999, Nissan was saved from economic collapse when it entered into an alliance with Renault and Mitsubishi. That's the one Nissan now wants to get out of. Something that French Renault should be at least as interested in. Among other things, because Nissan's profits fell by a whopping 90 percent in the course of 2024.
