No other brand in the automotive industry is initiating as many recalls as Ford has. There have been 40 of them in 4 months.
Ford continues to recall cars on a large scale because of serious quality issues.
The car brand has already had 40 recalls in the first four months of the year, according to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The many cases involve popular Ford models such as the F-150, which is now also available in Denmark, Expedition, Navigator, Explorer, Ranger and Nautilus.
The high number of recalls puts Ford significantly ahead of its competitors. Volkswagen is in second place with 12 recalls during the same period. However, Ford looks set to expand its lineup with five more new recalls.
This is what CarScoops writes .
One of the new cases involves 123,611 pickups and SUVs. The vehicles in question are the 2017-2018 Ford F-150 and Expedition, as well as the 2017-2018 Lincoln Navigator.
These vehicles are equipped with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. The problem lies in the brake master cylinder, which may leak brake fluid.
A drop in brake fluid level can affect the vehicle's ability to brake properly. Ford has recorded 90 warranty claims related to the issue.
Brake failures and software problems at Ford
Owners of the cars should have theirs checked as soon as possible at Ford's own workshops. Here, the master cylinder will be replaced if necessary. If the cylinder is leaking, the brake booster will also be replaced.
Another recall is more serious. It may have affected 24,655 cars Ford built this year.
The vehicles have a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. Their powertrain control module (PCM) may suddenly restart while driving.
This may cause the car to activate the handbrake while driving at speeds above 16 km/h.
Restarting the module can also lead to a temporary loss of acceleration. Eight restarts within 18 seconds can result in the car losing all traction from the engine.
Bugs in Explorer, Ranger and Nautilus
According to authorities, the problem is caused by a programming error. The software mistakenly triggers a restart of the entire system when values that are too low are incorrectly measured.
The solution, according to Ford, is a PCM software update. Workshops will also inspect the transmission itself for damage to the parking system and replace parts if necessary.
The third recall includes 1,168 Ford Ranger and Lincoln Nautilus from 2024. This is a recall of a previous recall.
Authorities note that the cars have been repaired incorrectly in the past, a problem seen more often at Ford.
This time it concerns the car windows. They may not respond correctly when using the global closing function.
The windows do not stop automatically when they detect an obstacle, which could lead to personal injury.
To resolve the issue, dealers will update the software in the door modules on both the driver and passenger sides.
Ford has had an unusually high number of recalls this year. It affects a wide range of their most popular models. Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by Ford to arrange repairs at an authorized repairer.
