FDM rages over speed limits – the politicians are dishonest

FDM is tired of politicians who invent arguments without any basis in reality when they want to force motorists to slow down in the cities.

The interest organization FDM wraps it up nicely. But the message is unmistakable.

Politicians lie and invent arguments for the occasion when they advocate that drivers in Danish cities should drive more slowly.

And it is not only the politicians who want to force drivers to drive more slowly in Denmark. The Cyclistforbundet will ban all motorists from speeding over 30 km/h in the cities.

For the same reason, they have started collecting signatures. Signatures to be submitted to Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen. All in the hope that the SVM government will once again tighten its grip on motorists in Denmark.

Back at FDM, chief consultant Dennis Lange believes that there can be good arguments for lowering the speed limit on certain stretches. But that's just no argument for forcing the speed down in general.

– We know from the extensive accident statistics that are available in Denmark that a large part of the accidents that occur in which road users are involved occur in connection with turns. In other words, maneuvers where the speed is already low, he says in an interview to Motor magazine .

FDM's criticism, however, falls on the politicians in Aalborg, where they would like to reduce the speed to 40 km/h. Driving will be even slower in Odense, where a majority in the city council will ban all speeds over 20 km/h in most of the city.

In a comment to Ugeavisen Odense, city council member Brian Dybro (SF) admits that the plan for lower speeds – at least in Odense – is designed to inconvenience the city's motorists.

Copenhagen is also working to ban speeds over 40 km/h, and according to Enhedslisten, the city must have several zones where cars are not allowed at all. In addition, the municipality will close several roads to motorists.
