Entire country turns its back on Tesla – has sold less than 100 cars

So far, April has been a nightmare for Tesla, at least in Sweden, where fewer than 100 new cars have been registered.

Tesla is experiencing low registration numbers in Sweden in April. So far, only 81 Tesla cars have been registered. The figures are for the first part of April 2025.

This is a significant decrease compared to the same month last year. In April 2024, 739 Tesla cars were registered in Sweden. The difference is therefore very large so far.

The month isn't over yet, though. Tesla still has a little over a week to significantly improve its numbers. A final sprint could potentially change the picture.

The statistics come from Car.info . They follow ongoing car registrations in Sweden.

The figures provide a snapshot of the market for total car sales here and now.

There is speculation about the reasons for the sharp drop, with some pointing to controversies surrounding Tesla as a possible factor.

Possible reasons for Tesla's low sales figures

Tesla itself points to other factors, however. Data from the manufacturer indicates production challenges as the primary cause. This is an internal explanation.

According to Tesla, the company's Gigafactory in Berlin is in a major recovery phase. This affects the production of the new Model Y. The factory is central to European deliveries.

Production volumes for Model Y have therefore not yet reached previous levels. This has slowed deliveries to countries such as Sweden. Delays may occur in that process.

However, Tesla is planning launches in the spring. This concerns the Model Y Long Range with rear-wheel drive. That model is expected to be popular.

The Model Y with all-wheel drive is also coming soon. The new variants are expected to boost sales, which could give Tesla a ceiling in the coming months.

The future of Tesla Model Y in Sweden

It is therefore possible that the new models can turn the trend around. The sales figures for the rest of April and May will show whether this is successful. The market is awaiting the final figures.

Many actors are following the situation closely. The electric car market is generally changing with changing trends. Competition is constantly intensifying.

Several car brands are continuously launching new electric cars. This increases the pressure on established players like Tesla. Customers are given more choices.

Tesla's situation in Sweden is therefore worth keeping an eye on. The coming months will be crucial for the brand's position in the Swedish market in 2025.
