After poor sales figures and a financial crash, Tesla is now promising to launch a counteroffensive. Production will be doubled, says Elon Musk.
After a strange appearance in front of the White House in Washington, Elon Musk writes that Tesla will double its production of electric cars in the United States within two years.
The announcement comes during a period of declining sales figures and a significant decline in the brand's share value.
On Monday alone this week, Tesla's share price fell by 15 percent, reflecting a broader trend of declining sales in several European countries.
In Germany, Tesla reported a 76 percent drop in sales in February, while competitors saw an increase. In France and Sweden, sales fell by 44 and 42 percent, respectively. And in Denmark, sales fell by 58 percent.
In response to the negative sales figures, Elon Musk has announced a plan to double Tesla's production capacity at home in the United States.
Tesla to build nearly 1.5 million cars in just 2 years
According to Electrek, Tesla currently builds around 700,000 cars annually in the US. The goal is to increase production to 1.4 million cars within the next two years.
Musk writes on the social media X that he will speed up production to support the Trump administration.
"In support of President Donald Trump's policies and to demonstrate our faith in America's future, Tesla is committing to doubling its U.S. car production within two years!" it says.
At the same time, Donald Trump has shown his support for Tesla by purchasing one of the company's cars. However, the purchase of the car is seen by many as nothing more than a PR stunt. As president, Donald Trump is not allowed to drive a car himself.
In addition, the president has launched several initiatives that clearly favor gasoline and diesel cars. Among other things, he has ordered 8,000 charging stations to be turned off and permanently removed.
Furthermore, as both current and former president, Trump is subject to a number of security regulations that mean that he is not allowed to drive a car himself.
Despite the current challenges, Tesla is looking to the future with plans for further investment. The car brand is working on developing a new, cheaper electric car, which is expected to be launched in the second half of 2025. This is despite Elon Musk publicly killing the idea as recently as last month.
The car, which will probably be named Model 2, is intended as an attempt to attract a wider audience, whose money Tesla will use to reverse the negative trend.
