As early as 2022, it was decided to prohibit motorists from speeding over 40 km/h in Copenhagen. Now it is happening on several roads in the capital.
In Copenhagen, a political majority is busy getting the cars out of the city. Or at least make private driving as difficult as possible.
More parking spaces are not just closed. It has also become more expensive to park. Even the electric cars no longer park for free. And now neither diesel, petrol nor electric cars are allowed to drive faster than 40 km/h.

The work to reduce the speed is expected to be completed in October. The city government also wants to lower the speed in Indre By to 30 km/h. This means that motorists lose their speed limit as early as 49 km/h.
However, the speed is not the only thing that the municipal government tightens on the roads. At the town hall, a majority of the elected representatives will be allowed to introduce more than one zero-emission zone, where only electric cars are allowed.
Other municipalities do not intend to go this far. In Odense, where they want motorists to drive 30 km/h on most of the city's roads, for example, they do not want to introduce the zero-emission zone, which the municipality is otherwise entitled to. Read more about it here .
