Clarkson had it for a year – now the rare Ford is for sale

Jeremy Clarkson had it for 12 months, and he could hardly say enough good things about the dark blue prototype of an Escort RS Cosworth that is now for sale.

It's been 31 years since Jeremy Clarkson sat behind the wheel of a Ford Escort Cosworth. At least this dark blue copy.

But now the car in which Clarkson spent half of 1993 is up for sale. Incidentally, the Escort RS Cosworth was only built for a very short period between 1992 and 1995.

One of the reasons whyIconic Auctioneers , who have the car up for auction today, believes that it should cost somewhere between 575,000 and 663,000 Danish kroner.

The car featured both in Top Gear Magazine and in the later TV publication Clarkson's Car Years. The car is three of just three prototypes that were made for series production. The car here is, among other things, without a catalytic converter.

– This is one of my absolute favorite roads and I drive one of my favorite cars, said Jeremy Clarkson in the 1993 programme.

The papers that come with the car show that Ford lent the car to Top Gear for a whole year. And that Top Gear also paid the insurance for a lucky reader who had it on loan for another year,

Should there be a Dane or two wanting to bid on the car, there are a few things you have to live with. Firstly, the car is right-hand drive. Second, the car is no garage queen.

It has already covered the first 82,514 kilometers. And that's a lot. That is, when we talk about prototypes. Because it is not intended that these kinds of cars should have a life on the roads afterwards.

In addition, pictures from inside the cabin reveal that the leather may well need a loving hand. But then I guess we are also the little things department. After all, we are talking about a piece of Ford's most famous history. At least in Europe.
