A special 'hybrid gearbox' with just three steps should make the Chinese MG3 Hybrid+ a success. Whether it comes to Denmark, however, depends on Toyota.
The MG3 Hybrid+ is created as a competitor to the Toyota Yaris Hybrid. Or more specifically whether MG's factory in China is able to undercut the Japanese.
If that happens, the MG importer will probably try the somewhat unusual hybrid solution on Danish roads.
In a market where the share of new electric cars in Europe is generally plummeting, MG is now testing whether they can sell a petrol car without a charging cable – i.e. a regular hybrid. Initially, i.a. in Sweden.
The MG3 Hybrid+ was shown to the public in February this year. And here it is the drivetrain that stands out the most. An electric motor with 136 horsepower is coupled to a 1.5-liter gasoline engine.

The electric motor doesn't exactly go far on its own. But that's not what makes the MG special either. It is the choice of gearbox, on the other hand.
The special automatic 'hybrid gearbox' has only three steps. But it is said to be able to increase the MG's efficiency. Conversely, the Toyota Yaris is available with a CVT gearbox. Also known as the million gear.
And it is not a cheap solution. As a hybrid, the Yaris costs from just under DKK 200,000 in Denmark.
