"Brand new" Citroën 2CV found with 896 kilometers on the odometer

It was probably built as one of the very last models in 1990. But this Citroën 2CV is like new with only 897 kilometers on the odometer.

When was the last time you saw a brand new Citroën 2CV? No, right? Because unless Citroën has one in the factory collection, it's impossible. And yet.

Because this particular 1990 example – the last model year – has only a short 557 miles. Or the equivalent of 896 kilometers. So from brand new.

The car was built at the Citroën factory and was bought by a father who wanted to hide it away for his daughter's 21st birthday. A day that lay a full 15 years in the future.

The daughter got the car when she turned 21 in 2005. But she only used it very, very little. And now it is time for the 34-year-old Frenchman to move on.

– It is very rare that we get cars from this era that have only been owned by one owner, says Gary Dunne, sales manager at Iconic Auctioneers, to the Daily Mail .

Citroën and 2CV fans outside England need to make one – perhaps two – things very clear. The steering wheel is 'on the wrong side' because of the British left-hand traffic circle. And then the speedometer reads abandoned in miles.

But beyond that, there's umbrella gear and French charm for all the money. The question is then just what the car should cost. Iconic Auctions believe the price is somewhere between £15,000 and £20,000. This corresponds to somewhere between 133,000 and 178,000 Danish kroner.

The 2CV was in production from 1948 and all the way to the summer of 1990. More specifically, the month of July. Production stopped when 5.1 million cars had been built. The first models had just one headlight and produced 9 horsepower.
