The BMW i8 should have had a successor. Now it may never come. Because BMW deliberately dropped the successor based on the i16 concept.
Domagoj Dukec has been at the head of BMW's design department since 2019. And you can think what you want about that.
But now the 48-year-old car designer tells frankly that it is not all he is involved in that BMW wants to see on the roads.
For example, he and the other employees refused to send a completed development of the i16 concept car onto the street. In fact, they were told to stop work.
The i16 was in itself a further development of the Vision M Next concept, which BMW boasted about in 2019. But it turns out to be nothing more than hype.

At the time, BMW otherwise said that it had equipped the Vision M Next Concept with a four-cylinder hybrid petrol engine. Good for 600 horsepower.
The customized i16 concept says Domagoj Dukec that he and the other designers drew inspiration from the 70s supercar M1.
A car that almost didn't come to fruition either, because BMW asked the then crisis-stricken Lamborghini for help in developing the bodywork.
In fact, the M1 only came to be because BMW took control of the entire project in April 1978. And that way, a lot could have gone very differently. Also if you ask Domagoj Dukec.
