BMW recalls 1.5 million cars with dangerous defect

A fault in the braking system on a number of models means that BMW is holding back a large number of new cars and recalling several old ones.

BMW has discovered an error during an internal quality check that could potentially affect 1.5 million cars.

The problem is due to signal errors in the electronics that control the brake system on several of BMW's models. The news immediately caused BMW's stock to fall by 12 percent. The biggest loss in four and a half years.

Therefore, the brand is now withholding deliveries of several new cars, as well as recalling several older models that are already on the roads.

The news agency Reuters writes that.

The brakes on the models affected by the recall are supplied by the German sub-supplier Continental.

According to the news agency, the massive recall means that BMW is lowering its expectations for the year's results. Especially because the number of cars delivered takes a significant dive.

In the third quarter alone, the German car brand estimates that revenue will fall by a three-digit million amount.

– The BMW Group is in the process of informing customers who have already received their cars, the Norwegian importer said last week when the problem became public knowledge.

How many cars are affected by the problem in Denmark, and how many Danes have to wait for new BMWs, is unknown. But Boosted follows suit.

BMW aren't the only ones recalling cars in droves at the moment. At the sister brand of the BMW Group, Mini, a possible fire hazard in the battery packs has led to the recall of several thousand electric cars.

All in all, it's bad news for Mini. Because the exact same electric car has previously been recalled because water could seep into the battery pack itself.
