Bilgiant recalls 500,000 cars with serious faults

German Mercedes is now recalling more than 500,000 cars due to a technical defect with the ABS system, the Chinese authorities have announced.

Mercedes has serious problems with more than 500,000 cars in China. Specifically, the Germans have found a possible defect in the sensor for the ABS brakes.

This is written by Automobilwoche .

The ABS sensor can fail if it is exposed to heat and high humidity for a long time. It can potentially affect everything from the ABS brakes to the electronic stabilization program, ESP.

Mercedes has currently handed over a so-called recall plan to the Chinese authorities, and the car giant says that it expects to recall the first cars from 27 November 2024.

Almost 242,000 imported cars, including the A-Class, B-Class, CLA and GLA-Class manufactured between August 30, 2011 and April 3, 2019, are affected.

In addition, around 281,000 GLA models that Mercedes had built locally in China between March 13, 2014 and October 12, 2019 are being recalled.

It is far from the first time this year that Mercedes has recalled cars in the 100,000s. Earlier this year, the brand had to recall several cars due to a fault which was actually found in Denmark. Read more about it here .
