All new diesel cars from Skoda are now filled with synthetic fuel the first time they are filled. Net emissions are 90 percent lower, says board member Karsten Schnake.
More Skodas have never been sold here than right now.
But even though the vast majority in the Danish context are electric cars, the Czech VW brand has not thrown out the combustion engine yet.
On the contrary, the factory pours new synthetic diesel into all new diesel cars the first time they are refueled to leave the factory.
The brand itself announced this in a press release .
This makes Skoda the first brand in the VW Group to use synthetic diesel. However, its competitors from Munich – specifically BMW – have long been pouring synthetic diesel into the fuel tanks of brand new cars.
Back at Skoda, the factory will, without hesitation, approve that all cars with combustion engines built from 2022 onwards can run on synthetic fuel without any problems.
Stellantis is ready to go even further. As early as 2023, the group announced that 28 million of the cars it has built over time can run on the fuel without any problems.
Like Skoda, Stellantis also uses HVO100 diesel. It is made from plant material and animal fat. The CO2 emissions do not disappear.
But the fuel is still classified as renewable. HVO100 meets the European fuel standard EN 15940, and Skoda says the brand will buy the diesel from state-owned energy company CEPRO.
– As the first brand from the Volkswagen Group to use this innovative solution, we use HVO not only in our passenger cars, but also for refueling trucks that handle internal logistics at our Czech factories, says Karsten Schnake, board member at Skoda.
Although the Czechs are the first within the VW Group to use synthetic fuel in road cars directly from the factory, they are not the first to touch the fuel. Not even within the group.
Porsche has long been producing synthetic gasoline at a factory in Chile. And there are plans to expand production capacity in both North and South America. Just as factories are to be built for the purpose in Europe. Read more about it here .
Speaking of Skoda, things are actually going extremely well in the Czech Republic. So well, in fact, that Skoda is now the mainstream brand that earns the most per car.
– With a margin of 8.3 percent, we are the most profitable, mass-produced car brand in the West in the mainstream market, says director Klaus Zellmer.
