Audi's last racing car with a diesel engine is for sale

Audi ran its last Le Mans with a diesel-powered racing car way back in 2016. Now the car – an R18 TDI – is up for sale in almost perfect condition.

A lot could perhaps have gone differently if the Volkswagen group had not cheated with diesel engines. Maybe Audi still had short Le Mans on the fuel.

Instead, Audi suddenly and very abruptly stopped development of the Le Mans prototype program after the 2016 season.

But the cars still exist. And now the last of its kind is up for sale. The R18 TDI Ultra is a monster without equal with a 3.7-liter V6 engine good for 532 horsepower. However, slightly smaller than the predecessor with a V10 engine, the R15 TDI.

Having said that, according to the ad on Pistonheads, the car must be in excellent condition and ready to go out on the world's racetracks.

The car here is from 2011. The last of a total of 8 cars that were built for various races by Audi's motorsport department. Allegedly, only 6 of the cars have survived since. Two of them are still standing in the city of Le Mans because Audi has never bothered to ship them home to the factory in Ingolstadt.

The car here has, however, been pampered significantly more. But Audi has not managed to win Le Mans since 2014. The competitors are just better. Instead, the bosses have thrown money at Formula 1.

But even before Sauber officially becomes Audi's factory team in 2026, serious problems have arisen. The entire management of the project has been fired, and the man behind Audi's Formula 1 team has been removed. Perhaps because the factory made a calculation error of 8 billion kroner. On a slightly more subdued level – namely for the street – the Audi RS2 has just made a comeback. But not as you might think. Instead, RS2 is a program in the brand's wildest street car to date, the RS e-tron GT Performance with 925 horsepower.

However, the sister car, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, has a whopping 1,034 horsepower. However, it loses its value terribly quickly. In fact, 250,000 are gone in just 28 days.
