Audi expects new electric A6 e-tron to break records

When the Audi A6 becomes an electric car – and thus the A6 e-tron – the brand expects it to have a range that beats the competition.

Audi is expected to present the electric A6 e-tron later this month. And on that background, one or more records have been set.

This is what Philippe Bornet, product manager for the project behind the sister car Q6, which has just been presented, tells the media Drive.

Audi does not just expect the A6 e-tron to run longer on the same charge compared to the Q6. The new station wagon – or Avant as the people from Ingolstadt say – probably puts more competitors in place.

– It depends on the car's shape, design and body style, so it's something to be expected, I can confirm that. I can say that we are on to something good, says Philippe Bornet according to Drive.

Both the Q6 and A6 e-tron are based on the same PPE platform that Audi shares with the rest of the Volkswagen group. It is, among other things, the technology Porsche builds the electric Macan on. The only model that is otherwise allowed in Denmark. Read more about it here.

The technology behind the PPE platform means an 800-volt charging architecture (i.e. fast charging at speed, ed.) and home charging with up to 22 kW.

But back to the range. It is in the Audi Q6 at 623 kilometers, and with the A6 e-tron surpassing that number, both the BMW i5 and the Mercedes EQE, which clock 516 and 639 kilometers respectively according to the WLTP norm, will be put to the wall.

The production-ready version of the A6 e-tron is expected to be equipped with an 83 kWh battery as a minimum. While a 100 kWh battery will be on the list of optional equipment. Over time, Audi reveals both S and RS versions of the car.
