Another city wants to ban all diesel and gasoline cars

It is not just here at home that the biggest cities curse the cars far away. They want to do the same in central Gothenburg.

Cars may soon be a thing of the past in central Gothenburg.

At least if these choruses on something other than electricity. Gothenburg wants to introduce a ban on cars according to the Swedes' 'environmental zone class 3', which is a total ban on cars with combustion engines.

This is written by Swedish Auto Motor and Sport .

There are already plans for environmental zone class 3 in parts of Sweden's capital, Stockholm. A central area of the capital will thus be prohibited for anything other than electric cars from 31 December 2024.

However, the ban is conditional on the EU not believing there is anything wrong with it. The EU is currently investigating whether this is the case. The environmental zones can be a sticking point in the EU's principle of free movement.

However, according to the Swedish environmental zone rules, all the state's own cars are exempt from the new regulations. This means police cars, ambulances and other emergency vehicles.

However, the Swedes are generally busy. The state has recently banned the police from buying and driving anything other than electric cars. Read more about it here .

At home, the city government in Copenhagen would prefer that the cars completely disappear from the cityscape. Therefore, they will ask the government for permission to introduce more bans on cars. Conversely, Odense has dropped the idea of a zero emission zone, which the city otherwise has the right to establish.

And in Aarhus, they want to revive an idea that the then Social Democratic government led by Prime Minister Helle Thoring had to drop 12 years ago. Read more about it here. Read more here.
