Pagani says no to electric cars: "No one is interested"

Horacio Pagani, the founder of Pagani, now makes it clear that neither hybrid nor pure electric cars will come out of the factory in Modena. "Nobody's really interested," it says.

Supercar manufacturer Pagani will not get to the point where they send either hybrids or pure electric cars around the world from the factory in Modena.

There is no customer base or future in that, according to founder Horacio Pagani.

– Nobody is really interested in a hybrid. I own some hybrids, including a Porsche 918, but when I have to go out and drive, I will always choose my Porsche 911R or Carrera GT, says Horacio Pagani in an interview for The Drive .

But Pagani and his people have actually thought of the idea. Both when it comes to hybrids and pure electric cars. The hybrid car weighed too much at almost 500 kilos, and there was absolutely no interest in the electric car when the customers were asked.

– In 2017, we put together a team to work on an electric car. The whole team was focused and enthusiastic, including myself, and we defined the concept of this car and we started working with Mercedes-AMG and other partners.

– We even started working with Lucid, which has excellent technology in the world of electric cars. But the customers were not interested, says Pagani.

Pagani's announcement fits nicely with what Koenigsegg is experiencing. At the factory in Ängelholm, they have also not been able to gather enough interest in an electric car.

And at Croatian Rimac, founder Mate Rimac earlier this year cast doubt on whether the brand will ever again build a new electric supercar. People who really have money don't bother spending it on electric hypercars, the realization left in May.

So far, Pagani is doing everything to keep the AMG-developed V12 engine alive. Also after 2035, when the EU has actually decided that new cars with internal combustion engines must be banned.

– We do everything we can to keep our V12s, says Horacio Pagani.
