These electric cars must pull most and least on the hook

One of the things that can keep motorists from buying an electric car is the question of the permissible trailer weight. Some are allowed to tow more than others, while some cars are not allowed at all.

On many diesel and petrol cars – especially in the Nordic countries – the towbar is self-contained. It's just not like that on electric cars, where towing something may not be allowed at all.

Not even though today there are almost 100 electric car models that can be towed. And yet it can be difficult to find out what the cars must actually have hanging on the hook.

In the past, it has often been a problem that many electric cars are not type-approved with towbars at all. And those who had the approval often had to haul very few kilos.

It is not necessarily so today. Several electric cars are already allowed to pull up to 2,500 kilos on the hook, but there are also those where the hook is only intended as a support for the bicycle holder. That's it.

Therefore, it can be nice to have an overview. Swedish Everything About Electric Cars has collected one such. The list very conveniently also includes future electric cars. It could be that you think the current selection is too small or not for you.

The question then is whether you should buy an electric car at all. Because although new diesel and petrol cars that can only burn fuel based on crude oil are about to be banned, the answer is not so clear cut.

In any case, the debate about electric cars – and whether they are the only form of transport in the future – does not settle down. Toyota believes, for example, that electric cars will never account for more than 30 percent of the global car market. Read more about it here .
