Jeremy Clarkson's Ford Escort sold after wild bidding war

Jeremy Clarkson's name was only on the registration certificate for one year. But now the Ford, which should not be on the roads at all, has been sold for an insane amount.

Top Gear icon Jeremy Clarkson has shamed the Ford Escort RS Cosworth. In fact, he loved the car so much that he drove around in a prototype for a whole year.

Yes, in fact the car shouldn't be on the road at all. But it is one of a total of 3 prototypes which for one reason or another survived the development work.

Therefore, Iconic Auctioneers , who have had the car for sale, believe that it should cost somewhere between 575,000 and 663,000 Danish kroner. And they got it right.

When the auction ended last Thursday at 11 local time (in England, ed.), the last hammer blow was placed at 67,500 British pounds. This corresponds to 598,000 Danish kroner.

For that price, the new owner, who has so far remained anonymous, gets a right-hand drive car that already has the first 62,000 kilometers on it. Which is quite a lot for a prototype. On the other hand, many of the kilometers store something of a TV star story.

The car featured both in Top Gear Magazine and in the later TV publication Clarkson's Car Years. The car is one of only three prototypes that were made for series production. Which i.a. means that it is built without a catalytic converter. Something that is approved by the authorities.

– This is one of my absolute favorite roads and I drive one of my favorite cars, said Jeremy Clarkson in the program from 1993.

The papers that come with the car show that Ford lent the car to Top Gear for a whole year. And that Top Gear also paid the insurance for a lucky reader who had it on loan for another year.
