Experts warn drivers against buying 'corona cars'

It's about keeping an eye on the car market. Also when it comes to used cars. Drivers can easily run into 'deficient' cars from the corona pandemic, experts warn.

Although the corona pandemic is behind us, it is still a time that leaves traces right up to today. Among other things. because the cars from that time still ply the roads.

During the corona pandemic, the car factories found it difficult to obtain parts for long periods, if they did not shut down completely or partially for at least as long.

According to Autocar, it now prompts experts in the field to warn motorists against cars from that era. Many of the cars were delivered without a number of functions which today are almost taken for granted by motorists looking at new or newer cars.

The lack of microchips in particular caused the car brands to cut a number of safety systems, such as the blind spot assistant and automatic cornering brake.

The best advice Marcus Blakemore from the Vehicle Remarketing Association can give is therefore to go through the equipment list extra carefully. If the car was produced during the corona pandemic, there is a risk that the equipment on the list does not match what the car actually can or cannot do.

– When even the car manufacturers do not know what they have sent out, it makes the industry's work very difficult.

– So many choir cars are bought 'blindly' by dealer after dealer that many are not aware that they have bought a Covid car, says Marcus Blakemore.

The lack of microchips is largely due to the car brands' own mistakes. Car brand after car brand expected exactly the same – namely that the demand for new cars would plummet.

In order not to have stocks of microchips or so-called semiconductors, the car brands therefore rushed to cancel orders for semiconductors en masse. This brought production to a standstill. And it was very difficult to get it going again, as it subsequently turned out that the car brands were horribly wrong.
