Porsche removes iconic detail in the new 911

It has always been the case that someone sits on the left and has to be turned to fire up the engine of a Porsche 911. But not anymore.

Nothing lasts forever. Not even in the car industry. And now Porsche has scrapped one of the 911's most iconic features.

The left-hand nail hole, in which the nail must be rotated, is a thing of the past. For a long time, Porsche quickly has a historical remnant of racing lob into the street car by placing someone like this.

The idea is – or rather was – that the location of some would make it both easier and faster to start the car when you jumped into it as a racing driver.

But it is not like that in the new 992.2, as the 911 was and with the model year 2025 is called by Porsche and brand enthusiasts.

In an interview with Carscoops , the spokesman for Porsche in the USA Frank Wiesmann explains the reason why the brand has now dropped the iconic some.

It's all about streamlining. Models such as the Taycan and Cayenne have long been equipped with a start-stop button. And now it's the 911's turn.

– For many of our customers who own several of our cars, familiarity is important. And that's why the layout is now made the same, says Frank Wiesmann.

However, the fact that some are now missing in the Porsche 911 does not mean that Porsche has made an electric car. Because even though the car is electrified for the first time ever, the Germans from Zuffenhausen stick to the internal combustion engine.

In fact, the petrol engine has only grown in the latest 911 edition. So is the number of horsepower. And the hybrid package is so small that it can fit inside one turbo.

The entire hybrid construction has been developed in collaboration with Rimac. This is how the first version of the new 911, the Carrera GTS, only gained 50 kilos compared to its predecessor. Read more about it here .
