Volkswagen confirms plan for electric car for DKK 150,000

Although it will not be in collaboration with Renault, Volkswagen stubbornly maintains that the price of electric cars can be pushed down further.

Volkswagen, Seat and Skoda have confirmed their plan to develop affordable electric cars in Europe for the European market.

The Volkswagen Group has long worked to offer compact and cheap electric cars in the price range around 20,000 euros, and the launch of these models is now planned for 2027.

This venture is part of the group's ambitions to promote electric mobility for a broad customer base and accelerate the transition to electric coaches.

– The future is electric. In order for electromobility to become widespread, there is a need for attractive vehicles, especially in the most affordable car classes.

– Despite the attractive price, our coach cars will set standards in this car class in terms of technology, design, quality and customer experience.

– This task has become more demanding due to increasing energy, material and raw material costs.

– One thing is clear: electromobility from Europe to Europe can only succeed with political support and competitive framework conditions, says Volkswagen's managing director Thomas Schäfer in a press release .

The project with the cheaper electric cars, which has now begun, is an important milestone in the spread of electromobility in Europe, the VAG group believes.

At the same time, the three brands are working on a strategy that will ensure that a number of electric cars for less than 25,000 euros hit the roads as early as 2025. However, this only happens towards the end of the year.

That plan includes two new compact cars, one from Volkswagen and one from Cupra, as well as two small SUVs, one from Skoda and one from Volkswagen. All four models will be built in Spain.

In connection with this project, Volkswagen will be dependent on a high degree of localization of the supply chain in Europe. Another advantage of this strategy is the reduction of long transport routes for components, which reduces CO2 pollution.
