Media: Hyundai builds hydrogen car with 765 horsepower

It is history that refuses to do. Now South Korean media are writing that Hyundai will still build a production-ready version of the N Vision 74 concept car in 2026.

This is a hydrogen car and a concept that simply refuses to do. Or rather, the rumors about it refuse to die down.

And despite several denials – and a certain hesitancy – on Hyundai's part, South Korean media now believe that it is good enough.

The wild concept N Vision 74, which was presented in 2022, is now becoming something after all. It is the newspaper Economic Daily that reports that Hyundai is ready to build 200 copies of the hydrogen car with the supercar shapes.

And not only that. Hyundai develops the car with inspiration from their first car in 1974 – hence the name – Pony Coupé. The new hydrogen car will be a coupe with gull-wing doors, it says.

The concept that Hyundai showed to the public 2 years ago had and still has 'only' 671 horsepower. But the South Korean brand has reportedly found over 100 extra horsepower.

Therefore, the car that Hyundai is launching in a very limited production run will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds.

So what does the South Korean car brand need a street-legal supercar for other than blistering? Even more blisters of course. And above all the mockery.

It is rumored that Hyundai is going hard to break the track record for street-approved cars in series production at nothing less than the Nürburgring.

Mercedes currently holds the lap record in the Eifel mountains. The track, which is also known as 'green hell', can be driven around in a Mercedes-AMG One in just 6 minutes and 35 seconds.

According to the South Korean newspaper, the new Hyundai would be able to give full throttle around the 20.8 kilometer track in two laps, because there is no more hydrogen to catch up with in the tank.

Something else is the price. The Economic Daily writes that Hyundai wants 500 million South Korean won for each car. The half billion won corresponds to 2.5 million Danish kroner. Production will otherwise stop again in 2028.

By comparison, an AMG One, of which there are several in Denmark, costs at least DKK 20 million. Production began in August 2022, 275 cars will be built, and AMG is not done yet.

However, the fact that 275 AMG Ones will be built does not mean that many cars will ever hit the streets. At least one of the cars has already been completely damaged in a mysterious fire. Read more about it here .
