Race choirs disqualified for using button illegally

Almost two months would pass before Josef Newgarden was knocked off the podium in the IndyCar race, the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

It would take the IndyCar organization almost two months to disqualify Josef Newgarden from the first lob on the calendar.

What came up short at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg track in Florida on March 10 this year. The track, similar to the one on which the Formula 1 cars race around in Monaco, has been laid out for the occasion.

But it is not the track that got Josef Newgarden disqualified. It saddened his team, Team Penske, because he did it himself.

IndyCar believes that Team Penske manipulated the so-called Push to Pass button, which does exactly what you think, so that the button could be used during the entire race.

This is stated by the IndyCar organization on its social media.

Both Josef Newgarden and his teammates were thus able to use the button, which can be compared somewhat to the DRS system in Formula 1, during the start and restart of the lap. And that is not allowed.

But it would take the IndyCar organization almost 2 months to find out. In addition to the podium position, Josef Newgarden also loses all points from the race. This means that he loses his lining in the championship.

It is far from the first time that a racer has been disqualified for cheating his way into the field. Or cheat at all. However, the cheating need not have anything to do with the car.

For example, a NASCAR driver was recently exposed for using something as innocent as a glove. An illegal glove, of course. Read more about the consequences here .
