The EU makes it easier to punish these drivers in Denmark

The EU Parliament has agreed that it should be easier to punish foreign drivers. The new rules will also apply in Denmark.

Here at home, there is already no difference between where, for example, a crazy driver comes from. Number plates don't matter. The car smokes in police custody no matter what.

But now the EU Parliament has agreed that it must be easier to punish foreign drivers.

Back in 2019, four out of 10 foreign drivers escaped being punished, i.a. because they could not be identified or because the foreign driver could not be forced to pay the fine.

But that is precisely what the EU now wants to make easier. Firstly, an "automated exchange of information" is introduced between the authorities in the various EU member states.

– It's a shame that we still don't have the option of handing out "clips" to drivers with foreign driving licences, this is something the EU politicians must return to.

– But regardless, this is a step forward for road safety, says Ellen Townsend from the European Transport Safety Council in a press release .

It is not yet known when the new rules will come into force. But these are not the only strictures and new rules on the roads that the EU has announced.

The politicians in Brussels have, among other things, looked at a Danish special rule when it comes to tightening the screws on the Union's motorists. Read more about it here .

But there are also regulations on the way that only affect certain countries. The EU will, for example, demand that Sweden allows the so-called A-tractors to go 45 km/h.

Today, all such corrals must be limited to a maximum of 30 km/h. Conversely, the EU will also look at whether certain environmental zones are legal at all. Read more about it here .
