Renault 5 Turbo 3E costs almost 1.2 million in Denmark

The new electric Renault 5 Turbo 3E will be Renault's most powerful road car ever. Only 1,980 cars will be built, and the price starts at 1.18 million kroner.

The new electric Renault 5 Turbo 3E will have 536 horsepower. This makes the car Renault's most powerful road car ever. The price starts at around 1.18 million kroner, and only 1,980 cars will be produced.

The car is a modern interpretation of the classic Renault 5 Turbo. However, the new model is built entirely on an electric platform. It builds on the legacy of the iconic hot hatch of the 80s. At least visually.

Physically, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is made of carbon fiber and a hell of a lot of it. It has two electric motors mounted in the rear wheels, powered by a 70 kWh battery.

The total power output reaches 536 horsepower. This is more than the 500 hp that Renault originally indicated. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes less than 3.5 seconds.

The car's electrical system runs on an 800-volt architecture. This allows for fast charging in the style of the Porsche Taycan and its sister car, the Audi e-tron GT. With a 350 kW charger, the battery can go from 15 to 80 percent power in 15 minutes.

Technical basis and performance

Production is severely limited. Renault will only build 1,980 examples of the R5 Turbo 3E. The number refers to the original R5 Turbo from 1980.

The starting price is set at 135,000 British pounds. This corresponds to approximately 1.18 million Danish kroner. The final price will depend on the customer's choice.

Reservations for the car open today. The 1,980 lucky customers will be contacted in 2026. After that, the process of specifying the car begins.

Customers will be able to choose colours and optional equipment. They can also collaborate with Renault designers to create unique dashboard trims and materials.

The car clearly traces its roots back to the Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2. Those cars defined small, powerful cars in the 1980s. However, the new R5 Turbo 3E raises the bar significantly.

Price, availability and design

The underlying structure is built in carbon fiber, which contributes to the car's rigidity and lower weight compared to the standard model.

With 536 hp, it is Renault's most powerful road car to date. It surpasses all previous models from the brand in terms of pure power. It marks a new era for Renault.

The car will be offered in several regions. This includes Europe, the UK, Turkey and the Middle East. Japan and Australia are also among the markets.

The car's high power and rear-wheel drive suggest it's more than ready to rip its tires to shreds. Although it does so silently. The fast charging times might give you time to change a tire. It's going to be a car for enthusiasts.

Renault has a long history of fast hatchbacks. Years ago, Boosted actually gave away a Renault Cilo RS to a lucky reader in South Funen.
