Here are the cars with the most embarrassing faults – is yours on the list?

ADAC shock: Toyota C-HR, RAV4, Yaris and Yaris Cross top the list of cars with the most accidents in Germany. Battery failure is the big culprit.

A new German study from ADAC has produced a surprising result. Several Toyota models are at the bottom in terms of accidents. This applies to the Toyota C-HR, Toyota RAV4, Yaris and Yaris Cross.

The result is startling for the Japanese carmaker. Toyota often tops lists of car reliability. Now German data shows a different picture.

Almost all tested years of Toyota C-HR and RAV4 show problems in the ADAC statistics. Newer versions of the Yaris and Yaris Cross are also affected. According to the study, they have many breakdowns.

The main cause of many breakdowns is a failing 12-volt battery. This problem accounts for 44.9 percent of all accidents registered with ADAC last year. This applies across all car brands and powertrains.

Engine problems are the second most common cause at 22.1 percent. Flat tires come in third at 8.8 percent of all cases requiring roadside assistance.

Toyota has been asked for comment by ADAC. The Japanese automaker acknowledges problems with the 12-volt battery in the models mentioned. But has not yet commented.

ADAC: Electric cars more reliable than petrol/diesel

Toyota says many affected cars have had their batteries replaced. New cars of the models are no longer being delivered with the same type of battery, the company claims.

Toyota states that they have optimized the process from battery production to delivery, ensuring that cars are delivered with fully functional batteries.

ADAC provided roadside assistance to over 3.6 million drivers and their cars last year. The survey is based on the many calls from car owners. 159 different car models are included in the assessment.

The study also shows an interesting trend for electric cars. Electric cars are generally more reliable than cars with combustion engines, according to ADAC figures.

Electric cars account for 8.5 accidents per 1,000 cars. Cars with gasoline or diesel engines have 12.9 accidents per 1,000 cars.

However, the number of electric cars with breakdowns increased by 46 percent compared to 2023. However, this is primarily due to the sharply increasing number of electric cars on German roads.

Toyota: From top to bottom on the reliability scale?

Tesla is praised in the ADAC survey. The brand has a low number of recalls, according to the German automobile club.

European cars often perform well in the statistics. Many European models avoid accidents on the road according to ADAC.

The results for Toyota are therefore remarkable. The brand normally has a very strong reputation for reliability and few breakdowns. This is the second year in a row that ADAC has found problems with Toyota models.

Toyota has, according to its own statements, taken measures. They have reviewed processes from battery production to delivery to solve the problem with the 12-volt battery. The future will tell whether this improves Toyota's position in next year's statistics.

Although Toyota is criticized here for certain models, the brand is still very popular. On Boosted.dk you can read a lot more about Toyota. Among other things, about the brand's plans with an alternative fuel such as hydrogen. Something BMW is also jumping on board. Read more about it here .
