New Nissan boss promises GT-R revival

He hasn't even sat in the director's chair yet. Yet new Nissan boss Ivan Espinosa promises that the GT-R will return.

He hasn't sat in the director's chair yet, and the order books for the current GT-R have only just closed.

Yet Nissan's incoming CEO Ivan Espinosa, who is the fourth commander in chief in just 8 years, promises that a new GT-R will be coming.

This is what Autocar writes.

The current GT-R has been in production since 2007. And in fact, Nissan would like to keep the car alive for another 18 years. Read more about it here .

But now that it can't be like that, Ivan Espinosa has to promise a new model. Which he has done, and even before the Mexican-born car boss takes the director's chair.

After 18 years, it's over – but the GT-R is coming back

– There are many, many ways to explain and show the world what driving pleasure means. From the affordable and fun-to-drive Z model, to the GT-R and even the Patrol.

We will definitely keep them alive. I would like to have four or five cars that are truly essential for Nissan at the top of our model range.

– Cars that truly encapsulate what Nissan is all about and show what Nissan is. And these cars are being driven all over the world.

– We keep the dream of driving pleasure alive. We will invest in more signature models for Nissan.

Cars are Nissan's heartbeat – and that includes sports cars, where we have many exciting plans.

In 2023, Nissan unveiled the Hyper Force concept, which was a proposal for an electric successor to the V6-powered GT-R.

The fact that the GT-R is now being retired is not something that everyone at Nissan finds equally exciting. During a visit to Nissan's Formula E factory in France, Boosted spoke to several executives, and they all unanimously said that the GT-R leaves a gap in the car brand.

But what is it, besides a new GT-R, that Ivan Espinosa dreams of? Well, it's 'just' a new Silvia. Just as he believes there's also room for a modern version of the Pulsar GTI-R.
