Skoda is now the West's most profitable car brand

There is no car brand in the West that makes more money than Skoda. At least not per car, if you ask the management.

It's with a lot of gimmicks and evasive explanations, but Skoda is now the most profitable car brand in the West.

At least if you ask the management at the factory in Mladá Boleslav. Here, they state that the brand built 926,600 cars in 2024, which is 6.9 percent more than in 2023.

This is what Autocar writes.

The cars generated a turnover of a whopping 27.8 billion euros, which can be converted into a profit before tax of 2.3 billion euros or 17.6 billion kroner.

That, says Skoda's CEO, is the same as a profit of 8.3 percent per car. And none of the competitors can match that, he believes.

Mercedes makes less money than Skoda – much less!

– With a margin of 8.3 percent, we are the most profitable, mass-produced car brand in the West in the mainstream market, says the director.

And here the director himself actually mentions the most important exceptions, or at least the most significant ones.

Because even though it looks good on paper with 8.3 percent per car – Mercedes, for example, is down to 4.5 percent according to the brand's latest financial figures – the Skoda top 'forgets' the supercar manufacturers.

Both Ferrari and Lamborghini each build far fewer cars than Skoda each year. Yet both brands rake in money, many more than Skoda.

And last we checked, Ferrari was still registered with a home address in Modena, Italy. The publicly traded car brand is still partly owned by the Fiat family, the Agnelli, and Enzo Ferrari's son, Piero Lardi Ferrari.

The latter holds a 10 percent stake in Ferrari SpA, which was purchased by the Fiat Group in 1969. It was not until 2016 that Ferrari became an independent car brand again.

In the almost ten years since the separation from what was then called Fiat-Chrysler, Ferrari has only gained momentum in earnings. 2024 was the provisional record. In fact, Ferrari now earns more than 1 million kroner in profit per car. Read more about it here .
