An officer crashed into other cars and knocked over a fence when he was speeding without his hazard lights. He is now charged with that. He himself says the car was broken.
There is no law that says police must drive with their horns blaring and their indicators on. Not even in Sweden. Yet an officer on the other side of the Øresund has been charged with reckless driving.
This is reported by Swedish Radio .
In urgent cases, the police can disregard the provisions of the Traffic Act, but the officers must still show consideration and make allowances for other traffic.
The Swedish officer did not do that, according to his employer. Therefore, he is now charged with reckless driving in connection with an emergency response.
Along the way, the officer managed to pull over other cars, and he also tore down a fence with the patrol car.
Danish police officer also has problems
The incident took place in central Lidköping in August 2024. Here, the police believe that the officer was speeding against the direction of traffic at least 92 km/h in a 40 zone.
The accused officer, however, denies any wrongdoing. Instead, he claims that the siren in the police car was 'out of order'.
However, the Swedish officer is not the only one who may have taken several liberties on the job that he is not actually entitled to.
Here at home, the now retired traffic officer at the Central and West Zealand Police, Preben Sandsager, has admitted that he 'probably messed up some evidence' from his civilian video car.
His now former employer, however, had a completely different opinion. Therefore, Sandsager was called in for a job interview. He was also reported to the Independent Police Complaints Authority and charged with insanity. Read more about it here .
