A German driver is in shock after being ticketed for speeding in Italy for driving 0.22 km/h over the speed limit.
A German driver has returned home from a holiday in Italy somewhat surprised. At home, he finds a ticket waiting for him for driving 0.22 km/h too fast.
This is reported by the newspaper Bild .
The fine stems from a speed trap set up in the province of Brescia in northern Italy, where the German driver pressed the accelerator a little too hard.
The 0.22 km/h is what the German is short of, after deducting a margin of error of 5 km/h. But there is no dear mother in the Italian ticket office.
So now the man has to send 49 euros to Italy. And if he doesn't do it within the deadline, the police will more than double the fine. Namely to 106 euros in the first instance.

That's an amount equivalent to 790 Danish kroner. And even though from a Danish perspective it's an almost non-existent speeding ticket, the German driver is still in shock.
But there's probably no way around the stand, traffic lawyer Melanie Leier tells the newspaper.
– Italian authorities have 360 days after discovering the violation to send the notification.
– As long as the postmark date is within this period, delivery is considered to have taken place.
"Those who do not pay risk difficulties on future trips to Italy, including possible enforcement measures on the spot," she told the newspaper.
However, you won't be able to get these kinds of stalls in Germany or at home, because the police always only calculate in whole numbers. Or rather – whole kilometers per hour.
The equipment that the police have is simply not good enough to measure the exact speed, so a few kilometers per hour are deducted.
However, police equipment has become much better. Especially the handheld laser devices and the photo vans. There are now 107 of the latter throughout Denmark.
Since 2023, the photo vans have been able to flash both over multiple lanes and in both directions.
