The Volkswagen ID.1 will be presented on Wednesday, but the Germans have already raised the price of the car to 150,000 kroner.
We expect it because Volkswagen says so. That is, the new ID.1 will cost 150,000 kroner. Or thereabouts in Denmark.
But now we also know more about what the car looks like. Volkswagen itself has lifted the veil on the new electric car.
Volkswagen promises that the car will be priced at around 20,000 euros or 150,000 kroner. The slightly larger ID.2 will be 5,000 euros more expensive.
It's Stepan Rehak, Volkswagen's design spokesperson, who has released some detailed images of the ID.1. Or at least that's what VW has been using his social media profiles for the PR stunt for the premiere.
"It will be Volkswagen's most affordable electric car with a price tag of around 20,000 euros. With design, quality and safety at the heart of it, it is a must," he writes in a post on the X platform.
40,000 kroner cheaper than the slightly larger ID.2
According to Thomas Schäfer, VW's CEO, the Volkswagen ID.1 is the answer to the desire for a more affordable car.
Something that the director also believes the brand's own employees have requested. The price of the new electric car starts at 20,000 euros or 150,000 Danish kroner.
– An affordable, high-quality and profitable electric Volkswagen from Europe to Europe: This is the Champions League of the automotive industry, said Thomas Schäfer in connection with the presentation of the car.
However, the Germans won't say a word about either the range or the size of the battery in the new electric car. At least not yet.
On the other hand, Volkswagen is deeply dependent on the upcoming electric car being a hit, as the brand is struggling with enormous debt.
According to Arno Antlitz, chief financial officer and operations officer at Volkswagen Group, the Germans risk finding themselves in a situation where they will run out of money in just two to three years.
