World-famous racetrack put up for sale with no reserve price

It's true that the track facility is up for sale with no reserve price. But it could also be the last chance to save Palm Beach International Raceway.

The world-famous Palm Beach International Raceway, along with the entire facility surrounding it, is up for sale. And there's no reserve price.

However, the track, located in the US state of Florida, also needs a rescue. In fact, the fact that the track is now up for sale may be the last chance to save the facility.

This is reported by the real estate agency CBRE.

The more than 70-hectare area, where Top Gear, among others, filmed a very famous episode, has been completely closed for 3 years.

As recently as 2021, a group of former Formula Race and Indy Car people actually tried to buy the facility. But their bid wasn't high enough at the time.

However, this has not immediately discouraged the group behind. Indy 500 winner Danny Sullivan said at the time that he would not give up, because 'they started scraping the asphalt off the place'.

And that could very well happen. The current owners have already said they are fine with it if the place is no longer used for motorsport.

Real estate broker CBRE writes that the site 'is also an obvious location' for government offices. That is, public agencies and the like. Whether it will come to the point where Palm Beach International Raceway will be completely closed down is, however, far too early to say anything.

But this is not the first time a racetrack has been put up for sale. Last year, the Huth family put another famous racetrack up for sale after 62 years of ownership.

Willow Springs International Raceway in California, also known as 'Big Willow', was built in 1953. In addition to the racetrack itself, it also has six other, slightly smaller tracks to enjoy. The track also has its own gas station.

Back in Florida on the Palm Beach course, the local city council rejected the highest bid for the site in 2022. It came from a real estate developer who wanted to reclaim the entire area with land to make more apartment complexes out of the vacant square kilometers.

Now CBRE is hoping that someone will put in an offer again. Or at least one that is worth considering. Less can do it, and if you don't need to own, there's a place like Little Talladega.

The place, which is also located in the United States, can be rented. It's expensive. But then you also get the keys to a house with six bedrooms and its own race track.

The property also includes a tennis court, a pool, a basketball court, several pool tables – a dance floor… and we could go on.
