New technology in the Volvo EX90 monitors you behind the wheel – is it the safety of the future?

The Volvo EX90 has earned a place on TIME's list of 2024's most remarkable inventions.

The American magazine TIME has put the Volvo EX90's driver understanding system on their list of the year's most interesting inventions.

The magazine annually highlights a number of inventions that they believe have the potential to influence everyday life in the future. This year, the Volvo EX90's system is included in the selection.

The driver understanding system is designed to assist the driver by using sensors to monitor whether he is alert or perhaps affected by fatigue.

If the system detects signs of inattention, it will first warn with a light reminder, and if there is no response, the car will give stronger warnings. Should it turn out that the driver falls asleep, the car can brake itself and warn others with the hazard warning lights.

"The Volvo EX90 has been developed to meet strict safety requirements," says Jim Rowan, director of Volvo Cars.

He adds that Volvo works with various initiatives to improve car safety, and that the placement on TIME's list is recognition of the work.

The system in the EX90 is based on Volvo's research in traffic behavior and safety technology. With over 50 years of experience, Volvo tries to use data to understand how drivers act and what can improve safety.

The EX90's system is part of Volvo's aim to reduce the number of accidents involving its cars.

Since Volvo launched the three-point seat belt in 1959, they have worked with solutions that can provide a safer driving experience.

The Volvo EX90 is an electric SUV that has been developed to both protect and facilitate the driving experience through technology that updates and adjusts itself according to real-time data.
