Happening January 1 – Volvo makes huge deal with Tesla

Chinese-owned Volvo Cars has realized that the brand probably can't beat Tesla on charging solutions. Therefore, Tesla's charging standard, NCAS, will soon be joined.

Volvo joins Tesla and enters into an agreement on the NCAS charging standard. From 1 January 2025, all new Volvo models in the US will be equipped with Tesla's charging socket, and owners of older models will be able to purchase an adapter.

In a press release , Volvo states that the decision has been made to make the transition to electric cars easier for consumers.

– As part of our journey towards electrification, we want to make life with an electric car, including our new flagship EX90, as smooth as possible.

Today we're taking a big step to provide access to simple and convenient charging infrastructure for Volvo owners in the US and Canada, furthering our commitment to electric vehicles," said Mike Cottone, Director of Volvo Car North American Market.

With this agreement, Volvo follows in the footsteps of other car manufacturers such as Ford, General Motors and Rivian, who have already entered into similar agreements with Tesla.

Tesla's Supercharger network is one of the most widespread and reliable charging networks in the United States, and access to this network is expected to make it more attractive for consumers to choose an electric car from Volvo.

Older Volvo models will also be able to use Tesla's charging network using an adapter that can be ordered from Volvo. This ensures that all Volvo owners, regardless of model, can benefit from the new agreement.

By the way, did you know that the absolute largest charging park of Tesla stands is to be built right here in Denmark? Read more about it here .
